My name is Monzer Zimmo. I am a Palestinian-Canadian, and just as all Palestinians are, I am the most important Palestinian that ever lived. I was born and raised in Gaza, Palestine. I received my university education at Al-Azhar University, in Cairo, Egypt. I live and work in Ottawa, Canada.
Alcanaanite is a hybrid word combining “Al-Canaani” الكنعاني from Arabic and “The Canaanite” from English, thereby signifying that posts to Alcanaanite’s Blog will be in English, Arabic, or both. I am a descendant of the Canaanites who were the first human inhabitants of historic Palestine that was then known as The Land of Canaan, which included all the territory of historic Palestine plus some parts from south Lebanon, south-western Syria, west of Jordan, and north-east of Egypt. The Canaanite civilization was primarily based on agriculture and “international” trade.
In Alcanaanite’s Blog, I post my thoughts and ideas about public matters; mainly about, but not limited to, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. I also include references to contributions by others that are consistent with the main objective of Alcanaanite’s Blog; namely, promoting the peaceful creation of a bi-national-democratic state on all of the territory of historic Palestine.
I believe that a “just” solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict resides in the peaceful creation of a bi-national-democratic state in all the territory of historic Palestine; where Christians, Jews, Muslims, and others live together as equal citizens. In the peaceful creation of the bi-national-democratic state, there will be no total victory for either side of the conflict, but there will be victory for the principle of equal humanity for all. Israeli-Jews will lose nothing except dominating Palestinians; and Palestinians will gain everything except dominating Israeli-Jews. In the bi-national-democratic state there will be two concepts of equality; individual equality among citizens before the law, and collective equality – in matters of sovereignty – between the two founding communities; Palestinians and Israeli-Jews. The structure, principles, and values of the bi-national-democratic state will be rooted in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and will be constitutionally guaranteed and institutionally secured. Citizens of the bi-national-democratic state – Christians, Jews, Muslims, and others – will be and feel safe, secure, and at home.
In spite of the mounting and continuing suffering, we (Christians, Jews, Muslims, and others) continue to hope for peace, safety, security, and better life for all; knowing that hope is the stuff from which life is made!
